I am investigating the relationship between biogeophysical factors and zooxanthellae community structure found in massive Porites corals around the Malaysian Peninsula and Singapore. DNA analysis will be conducted with samples of massive Porites attained from various sites around the eastern and western Malaysian Peninsula as well as Singapore to identify specific zooxanthellae clades living in these corals. By knowing the specific make-up of zooxanthellae communities in massive Porites from this region, we can better understand how these corals and their symbionts adapt to different environmental conditions.
