Honours Project

The aims of my project are to quantify the contributions of coral species and community diversity to reef structural complexity. Structural complexity is an important component of coral reef ecosystems, creating refuge and living spaces, as well as increasing their resilience to environmental disturbances. To quantify structural complexity, I will be measuring the rugosity and topographical relief of the reef. With coral reefs in Singapore routinely subjected to chronic urbanisation stresses that impact coral communities, understanding the relationship between reef structural complexity and coral diversity will allow reef trajectories under further environmental change to be projected more precisely.

Background

I am an Environmental Studies undergraduate, specializing in Environmental Biology.
